Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Please give me an opinion on this chick. If it is going to have some silver I would like to keep those who do..otherwise I want to send the regular partridge on. In the past I had always been able to count on some good feedback here. I don't post a lot but read daily. This little partridge looks a lot like silver and only has the one light brown streak down it's back. I like it's fluffy head hoping that it will have a nice crest. These pics are around 2 days old. I do appreciate it. I am hoping for a silver partridge. I want to start breeding greys so..maybe this little guy may be a help.

I have not had many Silkie babies yet - but going from experience with other breeds, if it has brown when it is a chick it will not be a good clean silver/gray when its an adult.

I think that yellow on the chest I am seeing is from a Gold base - and you don't want Gold with Gray, you want Silver?

I guess you can wait until the wings come in - I have a few chicks that look so close to Gray right now - but the wings are coming in brown barred... so they are Partridge based.

I see 5 toes on the right foot, but are there 5 on the left? I can only see 4

Looks like a pure blue silkie to me though
I've seen this chick in person (hatched it for Jason), and I question it, because the silkies that he has have nice thick foot feathering. The chick is very low on the foot feathering, so I am guessing it is mixed. Won't take long to tell. It will either start feathering in with hard feathers or with silkie feathers.

Also, it is quite a bit bigger than other silkie chicks.

ya thats the only thing that gets me the how big it is and the feathers on its feet but im still hoping its pure it would be cool ... so will onyxs chicks be bigger then my blue hen because her egg is so big ?? or does egg size matter ??

At hatch yes, but they'll even out and be the same size full grown (give or take a little).

That's awesome!

so question for everyone, could this help keep a white bird from becoming sunburned? I am trying to find ways to keep Snow nice and white besides his diet(already have that covered) and I have to buy this for my dog anyway.

Recently, I found a sunscreen cover for a 10x10 run at TSC for $50. It is made of out a heavy mesh fabric that will allow rain to flow through it, rather than gather into puddles. Nice quality material and may be something for you to consider.

Can anyone tell me what a correct rate to charge for PET quality, fertile Silky eggs would be?

The Roo is a Partridge. Hen is a White Silky as well as a White Showgirl pullet.

So far I've hatched a Partridge, a Silver & Silvery Grey chicks from the Roo over the White Silky hen.

Only plan on selling locally, don't wish to bother shipping.

Try asking on the regular silkie thread - that would be where you might find potential buyers. Folks here are breeding for show birds, or birds that can be shown. Mixing colors isn't likely to produce show birds - it is possible, but not likely. Also depends on the quality of the birds you are mixing/mating. I believe there is a thread for silkies "of a different color"...check that one out too. If you are only selling locally check Craig's List for prices in your area.
Hope this helps...
