Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Aww! If you don't mind snuggling with babies all day it should be fine as a lone chick. I have raised a few alone without issues.

I have school to attend. :/ I might just stick a mirror in with it. I have two silkie chicks outside. One looks like it hasn't grown any. So I'll probably put it with that one then. They are half siblings. Haha

The hen was broody before I got her. So I think that has a lot to do with the feathers. As far as the young one I will post pics of the comb later today. I would love for it to be a pullet but I won't hold my breath until I see eggs or hear normal crowing. I've learned that with silkies it's sort of a toss up.
I would love to get my daughter involved in showing them. That is if I can get good quality birds out of this set or a few generations down the road.

Your roo looks pretty nice =) Is the hen molting? She has a bit of a long back and her wings look a bit slipped but she may condition nicely. Do you have a picture of the young one's comb? It looks more like a pullet from this picture. The back looks a bit long but it may just be the way it is standing. I think with conditioning they would all be pretty nice =) Unfortunately when breeding whit to anything but white you can get any number of colors and mixes. white hides other colors so there is no way to tell what he is hiding under there!

My sizzles are all mixed colors but........... when I hatch eggs from my black sizzle hen and she's with a white silkie roo that has a few small black spots on him I get alot of either black, silver and grey babies. My white sizzle hen paired also with the white silkie roo she always puts out white babies. If that is any help. As far as the one in your last pic it could be the way it's standing. IDK but they seem to like to stretch their necks when taking pics. If in fact it's neck is that long I would say it's a cockereal. Your first pic I agree from that angle it looks like a pullet. I don't see any streamers and the crest looks nice and round like with a pullet. It's back is long though. When they are standing but relaxed they should look as if they hardly have a spine at all.

That pic of the comb and face says lady all over it

My splash ladies normally look alot better than they do right now but they have been breeding all summer then they went broody and molted. They look pretty ragged right now but they would be all nice and fluffy like they are suppose to be if I would pull them out of production for a while.

Those aren't their babies by the way. I gave them some white silkie eggs to sit on

Just went down to the basement to lock the door and when I turned on the light all 5 of icelynn's "foster children" peeked out from under butt fluff

I just love her, such a good surrogate!
