Peep, where did you find yours?
http://www.poultrysupplies.com/index_files/Page723.htm This is the only place I can find the coil chick bands. The one at the top is the hard plastic spiral which has to be sized. The chick coil down below grows with them.
The size 9 bands will remain on the 6 week old chicks through adulthood? It will accomodate their growth?
The size 9 is very loose at 6 wks (but stays on) and fits snuggly at adulthood.
OK...gave Poppy a bath today and took some pics...she did a little better this time in being still but she kept craning her neck out. But you can get an idea. She is about 4.5 mo. old now. But she still has a lot of pin feathers...couldn't find my cats brush to work on them.
OK...let me know what you guys think. I want to take her to Newnan if you feel she would be a good candidate! She is still a bit damp in
places.

Thanks everyone!!
I agree with previous imput. Do check her tail for straightness. It looks crooked in this photo but it may be the way she is standing. To check her make sure her feet are side by side.

Size 9 is the size for adults. My 6 week olds would walk out of them. At a couple or three months a size 7 will stay on until I need to move them up to a 9. I usually use zip ties earlier. Toe punching works, too.

I haven't had one fall off yet but that doesn't mean it won't happen! I have had the zip ties get buried in their feathers and I think they're gone. I never had one cut in to the skin but it scares me....

Thank you Peep,
I ended up getting them through Arcata Pet

I wish I had known before because I ended up buying size 7 for the chicks (the plastic ones). The chick coil are size 3. Isn't too small for them (even though they grow with them)?
Oh well, I know for next time.

I'm hatching out my first black lav/splits and I'm noticing how dark they are compared to my BBS blacks. Is there a chance that the lav gene is beneficial to black?

I'm thinking no but there is definitely a chance the Bl gene is NOT beneficial to black, if I'm making any sense. Would be very interested to hear what Sonoran has to say.

They are very flexible. I accidentally left one on for 4 months and it didn't cause a problem. Kind of made a temporary watchband print. That's why the zip ties scare me. I can't be trusted...
