I am very confused...what brown gene? What is a goldtop?I have this gold silkie roo who was meant to be a pullet. He used to sleep n my lap so I kept him for breeding sex linked goldtops. Will he be ok for this( do golds carry the brown gene)
Blue to Black will get you 50% blue and 50% blackI got a question on genetics, I am getting a Black Silkie that came from Catdance B/S pen 1. I know that this is a Split Black from Blue/Blue pairing. Is it possible in the future with other Split Blacks to only get Blacks or will they throw Blue/Splash chicks. I am trying to decide if a second pen will be needed for them or if I need to sell the Blacks as Splits and not use in my B/S breeding. B/S is the only color I am going to be working with for now until I am comfortable with good breeding habits. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

That's why I ask, still learning the genetics stuff. So I will need to have a Black pen for any Blacks that come out of the B/S pen. I would like to keep the Black's separate so I only get Blacks from them.

I have a Blue cockerel from M Best and will be getting the Blue, Splash and Black Catdance chicks this Saturday. So I will have them all together until I have enough Blacks to do their own pen. So I will have a Black pen and a Blue/Splash pen. Thanks for helping me. I know I will be asking everyone for help from time to time.
