Actually, bumping a post (by repeating) is against BYC rules.

It is obvious you were anxious, but that does not mean that you will necessarily get immediate help. If you want that, call an emergency vet. People on here try to be helpful, but we are on here when it fits into our own lives, and that is not necessarily when you want immediate help. There is a forum section specifically for emergencies and health issues, and you are more lkely to get a rapid response there, but even that depends on the time of day and who is on.

There is a section towards the right bottom of a page that lists "CURRENTLY VIEWING" in a box and names the people who are logged into the thread and have their computer on. However, they may or may not be actively looking at it. They could have left it on while they go fix dinner, handle their own emergency, or catch up on email. Or whatever.

I have this gold silkie roo who was meant to be a pullet. He used to sleep n my lap so I kept him for breeding sex linked goldtops. Will he be ok for this( do golds carry the brown gene)

I am very confused...what brown gene? What is a goldtop?

I got a question on genetics, I am getting a Black Silkie that came from Catdance B/S pen 1. I know that this is a Split Black from Blue/Blue pairing. Is it possible in the future with other Split Blacks to only get Blacks or will they throw Blue/Splash chicks. I am trying to decide if a second pen will be needed for them or if I need to sell the Blacks as Splits and not use in my B/S breeding. B/S is the only color I am going to be working with for now until I am comfortable with good breeding habits. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Blue to Black will get you 50% blue and 50% black
Splash to Black with get you all blue
Black to Black will get all Black

You have totally confused me. I did not know there was such thing as a "Black Split" from a B/B/S pen. If the bird is black I believe it does not carry the Bl gene. If it is black - it is a Black.

Splash has two copies of the Bl gene (i.e. Bl/Bl). Splash to Splash will give you Splash. Splash to Black will give you all Blue. Blue to Blue will give you Black (no Bl), Blue (Bl/bl) and Splash (Bl/Bl). Black to Black will give you Black. That is my understanding of B/B/S pens.

Only hidden genes (like lav) can be splits. Blue is not a hidden gene - if it does not express itself - it is not there.

Please correct my understanding if I am wrong?

Yes, if you want only Blacks and Splash, then you would need two pens. One for Splash, and one for Black. And no Blacks would come out of the Splashes, and no Splashes will come out of the Blacks. Only Blue can produce both Splash and Blacks.
