Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

looking to start over in showgirls here one my old hens

Chickendales please forgive me, but I have to share my husband's hilarious comment. I showed him the showgirl and he said (pointing at the "nekked" part) " is that the "CHOP HERE" line??

My husband, I swear!

Thought I'd share my first show experience...it was a lot of fun! So much more fun and fair than showing dogs that's for sure! My "Rachel" did very well for an eight month old pullet. Her sister Monica not too shabby either (but Rachel is my favorite). My splash girl Idgie was the only splash so no competition - and she went broody but I took her anyway. lol

Here's some better pics of my Rachel...I am so proud of her!

Hi, I was going to say I think all your birds looked like blue partridge to me - so I went out and looked at mine - and they looked lighter than I thought regular partridge would be too... so I don't know on the colors. The one beardless boy I have looks like a regular Ppartridge - but the two new ones sure have light fluff... and they are supposed to be regular Partridge too...

However, I agree - boy, girl, boy. I haven't seen any girls with that red, and I have a really dark girl over here (no red).
Thank you! I was thinking I was right on the gender. I just wish I could find out if they are blue partridge or not. I think I may be right but not sure, you know? Anyway, thanks a bunch for the help!

You should be proud of her, she is a very lovely girl! You did very well at the show.. even with a silly broody!

No problem. The best way to find out if they are blue partridge is to breed them together. If you get blue/black/splash - they are both blue. If you get only the dark color - they are regular partridge. Since my pair have some chicks that all came out same colors (no lighter and darker ones) I guess they are regular partridge. They sure look light to me though..
Here are the pictures from before I got them - they are in quarantine now and getting over a molt so they look really raggedy.

Jasper. See that lighter tail fluff and undercoat down by his feet?

Yikes just had a huge scare! I just got home and checked on little "eggbert"

and my good thermometer was dead and the crappy one said 104! I don't know if it really was 104 it is dumb and goes higher than the temp really is or sometimes lower. The humidity had dropped to 16% too! So I quickly cooled it down and moistened the sponges and then candled little eggbert to see if it was all right. Luckily there is still movement and she is alive and kickin! But I was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Very nice! Congrats on the first show and fantastic results! I hope my little cockerel does well this Sunday. It will be our first show also.
