I can't incubate eggs. I'm really hoping to get a pullet splash silkie too. I don't like chicks unless they are with a mama.

On the topic of all these colors, could someone tell me what colors are able to be shown? I know the recognized silkie colors are black, blue, white, splash, partridge, buff, and gray (this is off the top of my head so sorry if I forgot any) But I have also been told you can show porcelain...? I have a porcelain rooster who is very handsome and I was wondering if I should bring him along to congress with me for my first big show, but I am not sure if that is allowed, please help! I was pretty certain only recognized colors could be shown..
Colors that aren't recognized can be shown AOV. They can win best of their group, but they don't compete against the birds that are an accepted color, so they can't win titles like best of show.

bearded and non bearded: white, black, blue, partridge, buff and gray. and then the bearded splash. i got this info out of the 2010 American Standard Of Perfection for poultry.

I have shown a beardless Porc AOV before, and there were several paints at a larger show I went to. My girl won Reserve. I was proud since it was our first (and her only) show. :)

We are brand new to this and were wondering if some kind soul out there knew of some sort of pictorial guide to the standard? Like pictures of good vs. bad toe placement, "well shredded" feathers, etc?

They are all on the breed club website. www.americansilkiebantamclub.org I believe you have to buy a club membership (which is cheap anyways) to get into their forum. Many people have spent countless hours putting together albums in there!

Also if I don't know their parents...
What colors would I get with
Paint x splash
White x splash

I'm sure it could be a mish mosh of everything?

From my understanding, and I am not 100% sure just learning like yourself, the white coloring can hide other base colors. If your bird has the dominant white gene it will hide any other color that the bird would express if it had a recessive white gene. A good explanation I saw on here recently was if for example your white had a blue base, you cannot see the blue but it is genetically there. If you breed that to a splash, and the dominant white is not passed to the offspring, it will be as though you are breeding blue (from the white parent) to splash, and therefore you would get blue and splash chicks I think.

I am not sure on the paint and splash, although my gut is telling me it will give paint and splash chicks

Like I said I am still learning too, I would definitely wait for someone who knows what theyre really talking about! haha!
