Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Hello All,

These pictures are not very good but please feel free to critique my 3.5 - 4 month old Silkies as I am very new to the breed. I have fallen in love with them and of course I already want more!!! I would like to eventually show.

#1 Little Bit - I hatched from a shipped egg from a show breeder. I believe she is a pullet; gray or self blue/lavender? Appears to be better quality than the other 3.

#2 BB - My favorite and sweetest of the bunch. I believe she is a pullet; I assume black.

#3 Frost - I believe she is a pullet and I don't know what color she is.

#4 Boots - He crows, so I know he is a rooster; I assume gray. I don't want to keep if he is not breed standard.

I seen somewhere on here someone was asking about breeding paint silkies and can't seem to find that particular post. I recently bought 3 paint Silkie hens and was wondering what color rooster would improve my chances of creating more paints? I got these birds at an auction so I don't know thier line. I also got a white Silkie chick and black Frizzled Silkie chick and am waiting to see what sex they turn out to be.

Time will tell :)

I have noticed that good blacks are VERY hard to find. I believe you could also breed them to blue for blue paints as well. The blue should still work the same and dilute the black (or not, since you can get blue, black and splash while breeding blues depending on what color the parents are). They're also much easier to find than blacks. There is a thread specifically for Paint Silkies, a quick search should turn it up :)

I'd have black juveniles available right now all the way from 1 week to almost 3 months old. However I live in MN and temps have been getting into the double digits BELOW 0 so way to cold to ship anything.
