Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

They're young yet so they have time to fill out type-wise but color does look to be a problem with all three. The first and last look mixed color and middle looks like a Black with leakage. If he's looking at showing seriously he'd definitely want to thin these out.[/quote
Thanks! We kind of thought that, but being new to it all we wanted other opinions! The two buff-ish ones came from a blue partridge mother..The black came from a black hen, but had splash, black, and white siblings.

Im hatching my first clutches of mine and my grandaughters silkies.hers us for 4h and showing so i want to be in the right track..there out of a splash and black flock.this guy im posting is are oldest chick of the first weve hatched
so far from this fkock and the others may be to young to tell..does he appear alright with coloring.he hatched blacj looking but then looked bluish when dry and now pretty dark im guessing blue.

I'm gaining some good information. I plan to breed silkies later. Currently i have 4 Bearded Buff's. not sure of the sex yet. Do i only need to place the Buff's together, correct? Im also planning to have a coop for Calico Cochins. Thanks

Is most white in silkies a dominant white? Or are there both dominant and recessive white. Just curious as I seem to have ended up with a white silkie and white showgirl lol

Yes, you'd want to breed Buff to Buff. Pen them with other breeds and you'll only get mixed color chicks.

The white in Silkies is most often recessive. I would have to guess the same applies to Showgirls.

I am looking for a good splash silkie rooster to put with our black and blue hens. I have a prospect but his comb is more of a dark raspberry. Can this be bred out easily?
