Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Yes that's the part I'm mostly concerned about. I know leakage is an issue in paint anyway. So I'm worried I should just let him out due to it. And then on top of it I have no idea what to expect from a paint x cuckoo breeding. Leave the sizzle/frizzle aspect out. The colors are my main worry.

I have no idea what would come from paint to cuckoo. May be worth growing one out to see. I pair my paints with black then back to paint. So far no leakage but its just luck on my part I'm sure as I'm still learning the genetic aspect. I have seen others say they try not to use the hens that have unfavorable traits if it can be helped.

Exactly. I can't find any documentation where there is paint x cuckoo. So there is that.
Then it's further muddied by the fact that I'm not sure I should even let my paint procreate since he has all that leakage. Ugh

If you would like to focus on paints rubynala has beautiful paint silkies. I bought some hatching eggs last summer and they are very nice. Maybe if you could get one with no leakage you could pair it with your frizzled roo and slowly work it out. Not sure if thats possible but worth a shot..

Very neat reminds me of piebald , like it was going to be partridge and color was shut off in parts you have to watch it grow out take pics! Watch it turn out to be splash.. maybe with gold leakage Cutie :)

Thanks for replying! Baby is almost 3 weeks old now. I'll have to go take some new pictures :)

Re: baby disqualifications You can look at feet- 5 full toes-not clumped together like lobster toes. . And dark skin color. Some may darken up a little but should be pretty close to black skin. I wouldn't worry much about down color. They can change so much as real feathers come in. Pale off grayish chicks can become pure white- or not.. Partridges generally have chipmunk stripes and eye liner which will disappear as they grow into their adult feathers. Otherwise a lot you will not be able to tell until they mature. How fluffy and how big a crest is particularly tough to tell early on except by maybe looking at parents.
