Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

I was told today that Isabel isn't blue, that she is black? I am a little confused as far as blues, she is a dark blue, but still a blue. I just don't know.
We came in 3 and 4th and boy did we just flat out get beat! Pretty stiff competition. It was a rainy and cold day, I did learn alot. I spoke with the judge afterwards and he did say all the the silkies, aside from the whites were on the larger side (not large as in heavy), their bodies were just wider and low to the ground. Apparently, he likes a smaller bodied bird. Maybe my peanut of a white will work out after all.

My blue, Isabel is on the left and Isadora is on the right.
Isadora, actually was beaten by a few crest feathers.
remember this is a judges $3 opinion and that what you got lol and even if you where in the barn you probly would been about to got near your birds while being judged

I will be going to MY first show on the 14th, i'm really nervous! I don't even know if they got my entry form, I had to mail it and I don't think they send out a conformation. I also labeled one of my pullets as AOV "creamsicle" so I hope she doesn't get disqualified, I just didn't know how to put her down and this is how it was suggested. This show is also the more prestigious of the two they hold, the other one was at the deerfield fair this past weekend, this one coming up is all the big breeders so I don't know how my little girls will size up to those ones. ....:th
Do AOV varieties all go against one another for #1? We didn't have any in the AOV class from what I remember.. though my frizzled silkie was AOV. There were some incorrectly labelled splash. They looked blue with black splashes. Not white with splashes.

I recall seeing your creamsicle girl. She's adorable!

It was a little frustrating because it was my first show and I certainly didn't see the need to make a big deal out of it my first time out.  Honestly, I was a little surprised that the judge didn't question it and maybe say, HMMMM is this bird marked wrong.  I do have to say, I did miss him judging the silkies.  It was rainy and cold, so and I went to the car to warm up, and missed it. I was so upset with myself but I was so cold.  In any case, I can't feel too hard on myself because my birds were judged with Kate Morreale's birds, which were STUNNING.  The next time though, I will be bringing a few more birds.  I wasn't sure about my young whites or my little splash pullets, but they would have done well.   Maybe one of each color and see how they measure up.

I love phyllis, she is beautiful.:)
It was like that here as well this weekend. We were frozen, and we got 15 mm of rain. It was not fun. I was in the sale barn, and shivering all day. I should have dressed more appropriately. My white girl didn't even place. All the whites were from much better lines. Ah well. She's cute. I didn't even want to enter her, but Jamie somehow convinced me to.

Thanks by the way :) I just love her.

Thank you! I always worry about her, she has had a cough too for some time, most likely fungal because I tried every antibiotic under the sun

so I ordered oxine that should be in today. Can't have a coughing chicken at a show! Not that it's contagious, but they would disqualify me. I've been so excited about this show since I got them back in march, I think I may cry if we're disqualified

She is also my favorite by far, she will let me snuggle her and will give me kisses if I put my face down to hers

It makes me laugh, these little fluffballs just make you feel so warm and fuzzy inside.

Now, question! Could I use this on them before a bath? http://www.petedge.com/product/Groo...newal-Treatment/pc/190/c/213/sc/270/56805.uts

I use it on my cat and it makes him feel so soft, it is also great for the skin.

and about the shampoo I bought a couple weeks ago, the true white shampoo. It works awesome! I sort of underestimated it's whitening power and left it on my creamy for like 5 minutes (says to only leave on for 3, 2 for colored spots), and when I rinsed her, she was a bit lighter than when we started

So I won't be leaving it on that long again!

I had one fungal infection this year as well. If the others don't have it, and you haven't separated, it could very well be the case. Antibiotics should clear up a respiratory infection.

Oxine cured my boy's fungal infection in a week. I suggest misting with a spray bottle instead of a humidifier. I found that worked better in terms of how fast.

couldnt hurt but i try on bird your not showing 1st
I only have 2, and i'm showing both of them haha. Maybe I should try it on one of them's feet first? That way it won't do too much damage if it does something weird? Though it's only mud, and they roll in mud, so I don't see why it could hurt.

I was told a nebulizer would work the best, I have one of those. I could use a spray bottle but they hide their faces whenever they get sprayed so I don't know how well that would work. I could sit with her and hold the nebulizer to her face. I don't mind watching TV for an hour haha!
