I used the mud mask on my cream, I really like how she feels, she's so soft! It rinsed out without leaving staining, I did need to wash her in another shampoo and dawn, but the outcome is nice, and she is shiny. Also did the first round of oxine. How many times a day should I do it? The max fill line in the nebulizer I have did about 30 minutes. Should I do it once or twice a day? and for how long?

the correct turm is splash, slash is the dilute of blue, there many shade of splash and yes there are other colors that can be splash like partridge or any other color that come in blue, silkies are one only breed recognised in splash

I am in the market for an exceptionally nice black rooster for my BBS pen, preferrably SQ. If anyone has one that they are willing to part with, please PM me. I am hoping to continue hatching through the winter, so I need one like.....yesterday.

Dwight Scott, he did give me some great information, but I did leaving feeling somewhat confused. He did tell me that he actually preferred the size and type of my Isabel, but her "black" coloring wasn't dark enough. She is on the smaller side, sleeker, more upright, and more compact than Isadora. They are both so different looking.
When I arrived at the show, I checked in and found my coops, one of the tags were marked incorrectly. Both were marked black instead of one blue and one black. I had someone come and check the tags and he commented "you should leave this one as black and show her as black, I'm a judge, and I wouldn't call that blue". He showed me the blues and their coloring looked like a light blue or dark lavender. The lighting wasn't the best, and I can say that my blue looked VERY dark under the lights. I didn't like that she was left mismarked as black and shown as black, I would have rather her been disqualified as a dark blue and marked correctly. I don't know, feeling pretty confused. Certainly not deflated, just confused.

The good news, my daughter was so happy that her birds were there at the show, but she was disappointed that we didn't win a ribbon. I had to tell her that her birds did very well because they behaved themselves and needed some practice to be good showbirds. She said "They might need more practice then." I need some practice too.

Next time, when you know you have a Blue, and she's dark, be sure to hold your ground. I have dark blues, too. Most of mine are. They look black if you didn't know better. If a judge is in the know, he will check the undercoat. There is no DQ for being too dark of a blue-- blue is just not black, so it doesn't matter how dark they are. Glad you got to go to your first show, though!

Do AOV varieties all go against one another for #1? We didn't have any in the AOV class from what I remember.. though my frizzled silkie was AOV. There were some incorrectly labelled splash. They looked blue with black splashes. Not white with splashes.

It was like that here as well this weekend. We were frozen, and we got 15 mm of rain. It was not fun. I was in the sale barn, and shivering all day. I should have dressed more appropriately. My white girl didn't even place. All the whites were from much better lines. Ah well. She's cute. I didn't even want to enter her, but Jamie somehow convinced me to.

Good point. I just sold a bunch at an auction this weekend...at least I think I did. Yesterday was Ethan's birthday and since I took him with me we had to leave around 2 when it was his nap time. I tried to skip my birds ahead in line by taking their lot number out of order and placing them up front. HUGE mistake. When my birds got to the front (they were in lot 90) we were on 20, I heard the auctioneer over the mic say, "Whats this? Oh no no...wait...those are in the wrong order. Get those darn birds out of there."

I sat red-faced, pretending to be distracted by my toddler all while the chaos was going on.

So, my detachment occured when they removed the birds and placed them back at the end of the line. Yup, if those darn things didn't sell then I hope someone did them a favor and ate them because there is no way in HECK that I am driving another 3 hours to pick them back up

On a side note I left with 6 roosters to sell and came back with 6 white rock layers. I wonder if they lay creamy brown eggs or white? They are still pretty young, not fully mature yet. And pretty

There is no "blue splash". It's Splash and splash only. You can talk about a lighter or darker base, but they are still ultimately a "splash".

I've noticed people here and there saying 'blue splash' and it's incorrect, and not sure where they got that term. If you go read the SOP for splash, and I would post the link, but I can't find it right now (ugh), but it gives an excellent description of splash, and it being a blue based bird.

I agree. But I don't know if other Splash are recognized in other breeds or not. I have friends working with Splash marans and they must have a white base, not a blue, but that has nothing to do with silkies, anyway.

Thanks Hawkeye. I was thinking all breeds were the same for the splash colouration. I stand corrected! It makes sense.
