Silkie chick with swollen yellow eye UPDATE-it's gone :(

If its eye worms, I think they could pick it up from their mother (who may not have an active infection. Its passed on in the poo. I don't know if it could have gotten to them while growing in the egg or not (if the mother had the parasites). I would try the saline option too. Use the homemade or you can buy sterile saline solution in a small bottle at any pharmacy. I don't think it will matter if its warm or not. I'm sure room temp is fine.

Have you tried to see if the yellow stuff can be moved? Is it hard or soft? Maybe a warm pack and some saline will help clear it up. I would think the Terramycin would be a good plan if you could somehow get it under the gunk.

This yellow stuff seems like a solid mass. I'm not making progress with the saline. Should I just try putting neosporin on it? It's the plain neosporin, not the pain relief kind.

could it be the eyelid then? I mean, does she seem to have the eye open at times and closed at times or does it always look that way that it does in the pic?

I guess chickens have internal eye lids, but I dunno. Do chciks have a third eye lid?

I personally wouldnt try to remove it until you know the normal anatomy of the eye.

When the eye is closed the lid is black like it should be, but incredibly swollen. She's cheeping like crazy, but it may be because it doesn't like being alone.
