So I received my chicks yesterday from a breeder. I’m confused with how some are feathering out, some have the typical fuzzy tips but some have smoother feathers growing in on the wings. I’m confused did I receive some satin silkies? I’m rather new to silkies and I was hoping these aren’t satins.

Some of those aren't purebred silkies. Any chance that they sold you some out of a frizzle breeding project? Some of those chicks are smooth and normal feathered. I think they call them satins.

And #3 definitely is not paint in color.

That’s what I thought...:/ well crap.

Here is some pics of my Silkies. They never had smooth feathers like some of yours.
Sorry I think they mislead you a bit on their type. :(

Thanks... I’ve been trying to get a black silkie. So all of them will probably feather out smooth?

The first and third look like silkies with correct feathering. The white could feather out as paint the off white color is the paint coloring. There are light paints and heavy paints. I have paint frizzle satins with smooth feathering. I have one Blue paint silkie cockeral. Just hatched this year. Also have Black silkies I aquired last August. I am incubating there eggs under another silkie. Hope they hatch.

I think the blue for sure and possibly the one you are calling paint (which I think is another blue) will end up being typical silkies. The stringy type feathers in the #1 pic is exactly what all my silkies looked like before the real fuzz came in.

All the others habe rather normal looking feathers so you will more tha. Likely end up with more satins than not.
