Im very sad to say my absolute favorite silky past away yesterday. Strange thing is there was no reason for her to but I know sometimes things like this happen. Well she was a gift and I didn't know much about her other than she was farely young and seemed very healthy, no signs of sickness and no issues whatsoever. Then I overheard a lady say it could have been because she was on laying mash ??? But she was def old enough for it! I guess I more sad and confused going over everything I did thinking it could have been my fault but I know you cant beat yourself up. Any tips for moving on or anyone who can relate??? Everyone I know thinks its crazy I am almost in a depression over this but this silky was seriously like my child, so its very difficult....

I know how you feel. And silkies are real heart-string pullers. My one died a few months ago and I had her . I held her body in my arms and rocked her for an hour before I could let go. There will always be chickens like that in your life. But if you want to avoid the pain and sadness when one dies, the only way is to not have any chickens.

You can't blame yourself. Because you would have done everything to prevent it if you would have known..

The only way I get over these things. I think about the wonderful life I've given them. They get a funeral and a prayer. Then I get the incubator out and get some hatching eggs.

I hope this helps.

I had a Buff Orpington named Pasta that was sitting on eggs. I was out of town and the neighbors were watching everybody and she had gotten attacked and kiiled by a fox. I only found feathers everywhere. I was sad, but I "healed " quickly because I had another broody hen at the time and she took the eggs from Pasta so now I have her 2 babies ( one boy and one girl ) and her memory lives on. I miss her so much though, RIP Pasta.<3
