Silkie Dry Drowning??

Update: checked the Silkies this morning and they are completely louse free but I had just bathed them as a precautionary.

Turkeys: All but one was louse free. The one that did have lice was two tiny infant lice. Not sure if I had somehow missed them or they hatched? I guess that's what you get when bathing turkey poults at midnight haha  so, they all had another bath promptly this morning. I skipped the salt and vinegar this time though. I soaked them in warm water and dawn for about 5 minutes making sure they were completely soaked. Then I took them out of the water and generously covered them in liquid Dawn soap and scrubbed them gently all over except their heads. Let them sit a few minutes then rinsed. Finally, after rinsing the soap off, I let them soak an additional few minutes. All are officially lice free. I will be repeating treatment in 7-10 days to ensure that they remain louse free and will keep them quarantined until they are clear. :)

Update: Checked everyone over yesterday and can happily report that they are still louse free! Yehh!! :celebrate:yesss:

I will still be doing the an additional Dawn soap bath and scrub at the 7-10 day mark. Once dried, I will be coating in wood ash. I have been adding wood ash to their brooder box every time I clean it in hopes that if some lice are alive miraculously and try to hide in the bedding, the wood ash smothers them. :/

Glad to hear they are still clear of critters!

I add wood ash to the "favorite" dust bathing areas of my run. So far I haven't had any problems, but I did do a "preventative" dusting with poultry powder this past week, just to stay on top of things.

Came back to update! Everyone is still louse free and doing great! :) The Dawn bath and wood ash dusting was a success! :D
