I'm still trying to wrap my head around the feather color genetics for Silkies… so I have some questions! I've been using this site below to look at genotypes of different Silkie colors and some of things are confusing me.
http://silkies.yolasite.com/genetics-of-silkie-colours.php

For example, it lists the most common black silkie genotype is eb/eb S or s+ Pg/Pg Ml/Ml
I know that eb stands for partridge, s is silver, pg is pattern, and ml is melanotic. If someone could put this into words, such as... "Black Silkie is heterozygous/homozygous for partridge, heterozygous/homozygous for Silver, etc" then I think a lot of my confusion would be cleared up!

Another question is, what do the pluses (ex: S or s+) mean on all of the genotypes?

Perhaps this site is incorrect (does a black silkie really carry Silver???), if anyone could provide a list of the color gentypes for Silkies, I would appreciate it!

Thank you!

Another question is, what do the pluses (ex: S or s+) mean on all of the genotypes?

Chickens aren't my genetic forte, ducks are, but this I know. The plus denotes a wildtype allele, or one that was found in the original color genotype of chickens before new colors were found.

You may want to play around with this calculator to learn how all the genes interact:

http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html?mgt=E:E/E&fgt=E:e+/e+

And here is an explanation of the genes and what they do:

Thank you! I have played around with the calculator before and it is pretty cool... but I didn't know they had that list of the genes, very helpful!
