SILKIE FOR SHOWS!!

What do I need to do to get my new six week old silkie ready for shows. Feed, housing, everything I need to know, its my first time for show chickens. Thanks.

you got to make sure that they are show quality first....

There are some pretty wise silkie peeps on this board so maybe show some pics of them here and get opinions from others to get you started. I know one thing...if your going to show chickens keep them in a very clean pen with no other chickens...at least none that like to pick feathers out. Silkies are usually ok together though. My silkies still look pretty darn good when my other hens look terrible over this winter.

They are fuzzy but he wouldnt stand still.

Are they bred off show quality stock? I don't think they'll have a big enough head gear and foot feathering for show silkies.

Yep they are from really good showing chickens.

Is he lavender or blue? Looks like lavender to me. Unfortunately he is not show quality. But he looks like a handsome pet

The picture of the whole bird, he appears to only have 4 toes. If so, he will be disqualified in a show. Also, the bird has almost no foot and leg feathering, and no crest that I can see. That particular bird would never place or certainly be DQ'd at a show. If they came from a show silkie breeder, if I was that show breeder, I would be embarassed.
