Silkie Gender Help Needed.

I'm telling you I have a silkie that was born around July 1. So that would make it about 14-15 weeks. 3 weeks ago I would have told you it was definitely a roo, loads of streamers. This week it looks like a hen, nice full round topknot. The chicken is simply too young to make the call just yet.

Right now it's transgender! LOL!

(...but then if you don't believe Sonoran, I don't know why you would believe me.)

i'm sorry if it is a roo and you have to rehome. Last place we lived we weren't allowed to have roosters. It was very sad not being able to choose which chickens we wanted to keep. All the boys had to go. i think i did a good job finding homes, though. You will have a little while once a roo starts to crow before they get really loud. So i agree with others that waiting is a good idea.

Good luck, and consider that house chicken situation if all else fails. i love having chickens in my house. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't.

Oh no! I do. I believe you both. Trouble is I am trying to fool myself into making Pearl-Girl be a girl. Your opionions and all the good folks on BYC have great advice and I think you are dead on and PG is a boy. I am sorry if my posts sound like I don't believe you or Sonoran Silkies. I re-read my posts and don't think I was out of line anywhere but if I was I am sorry. I always want to be respectful of others posts.

The fact is she is beginning to worry me about the "transgender" thing and that is why I posted. I was hoping against all hope that I would post pictures and everyone would say 'pullet' and I could be happy again. But if I count right it looks like about 9-0 on the voting.

But I will follow the fine advice to wait it out. She is too sweet to let go of. And again I really appreciate all of you for posting. Your experience with chickens is so much appreciated by us chicken novices. Thank you, thank you, thank you. (and a nice mia culpa thown in for good measure).

I have a Silkie that looks very much like Pearl, and is just a couple of weeks older. He started crowing last week and it is the most beautiful, mellow five syllable crow you have ever heard. Much like a clarinet, as opposed to a trumpet. I can't imagine how that musical sound could offend anyone.

Yeah sorry about that. I was running a fever for 6 days and I was a little bit punchy I guess. I'm just not sure about my own either, that looked like yours just a few weeks ago, now looks like a pullet.
