Silkie Hatch-A-Long 2015

400

We have 3 dry, 1 still in the bator. And 1 more pipped. I saw rocking in a few more, so i am hopeful for more than 5/18

We are up to 7 chicks, we had so assist a couple with funny eggs. I have 1 left zipping and 1 lagging behing that hasn't pipped yet. I candled and pulled out everything that wasn't moving. Ended up with 9 dead in shell silkies (most from the same hen) and 4 dead in shell mixed chicks and 1 late quitter mixed breed. Not as good as i was hoping for, but better than last time.

Set 14 new silkie eggs today. One is cracked and repaired with wax so we will see how it does. And a picture of the chicks all fluffed up- lots of colors!

We have a final count of 8 silkies. 6 splash and 2 possible blues. 1 isn't in the picture it was still drying off. The spraddle legged one is in the incubator with the last baby hatched. We are trying to get his legs back to where they go.

Do you guys use the dry hatch method for your silkies? I'm waiting for my Brinsea mini to arrive in mail and have started to collect my BBS silkie eggs. I've been reading about dry hatch, specifically, approx 25% humidity for 18 days and then add water to up it to 65%. Does this sound ok for hatching silkies? This will be my first time incubating since I've relied on broodies in the past.

Btw, congrats on all the new chickies. :love
