Silkie Hatch-A-Long 2015

Do you guys use the dry hatch method for your silkies? I'm waiting for my Brinsea mini to arrive in mail and have started to collect my BBS silkie eggs. I've been reading about dry hatch, specifically, approx 25% humidity for 18 days and then add water to up it to 65%. Does this sound ok for hatching silkies? This will be my first time incubating since I've relied on broodies in the past.

Btw, congrats on all the new chickies. :love

We do a dry hatch method, but i keep my incubator in the room with the fish tank, so it runs about 25-30% room humidity.

7 of 16 in the bator have hatched so far; I haven't bothered the broodies yet but will checkk when I get home from work this afternoon.

I just got 15 silkie eggs in the mail: porcelain, bbs, paint and cuckoo. I can't see any air cells. They haven't set for 24 hours yet. I'm so scared that none will hatch! Any reassurance?

OK, first 25 hours down. Humidity briefly went up to 32 from 30 in first hour but is now steady at 40 again. Temp is staying strong at 99.6-100F. Have two thermometers and know the one at egg level is spot on. Checked it with the ice water trick. It was perfect. It stays so humid in nc i don't think I'll need to add too much water till lock down.

Help, just candled after eggs have been fat end up for 48 hours and air cells are now visible buy are still loose. How long do I wait before starting to turn!?

NEWBIE question. First time with an incubator. I'm going to set eggs in my Brinsea Mini Advanced tomorrow. I set it up and brought it to temp. I'm going to set the eggs tomorrow, but have to make a couple decisions. #1, turning interval. It defaults to every 45 min. What would an experienced silkie hatcher suggest?? #2, cooling off period. I think I DO want to do this, but read that I shouldn't start until day 7 and quit at lockdown, right? Also, the settings are 60 min upward. 60 min or longer?? #3, I'm going to dry hatch and up the humidity at lock down to 65%. Sound good? Thanks for any input you can give. :jumpy hopefully!!!

Turning I don't know, the Eco 20 turner has no adjustments but the recommended cool down is 2 hours a day from day 8 thru 18. I had great results with that setting.

Ok, I did it. I have 7 BBS silkies in the Brinsea. I decided to put the turning interval at 60 min, I'll start the cooling period on day 7 for 2 hours, and so far I'm dry hatching and have weighed each egg and will monitor for weight loss and adjust humidity, if necessary. Right now the room reads 40% humidity, so I didn't add water. Got my fingers crossed for a successful hatch close to Feb 19. Can't wait! Here's the full bator.

Day 4 incubation, temperatures and humidity have held steady. Veins seen in 15 out of 16 eggs! Started with ruptured air cells in all the egg and and now they are all attached and some are saddle shaped but most look great. I'm so happy!
