Silkie Hatch-A-Long 2015

Day 4 incubation, temperatures and humidity have held steady. Veins seen in 15 out of 16 eggs! Started with ruptured air cells in all the egg and and now they are all attached and some are saddle shaped but most look great. I'm so happy!

It IS exciting! That's cool that you've already seen life and you're only on day 4. I'm on day 3, but am going to wait until day 5, or 7, if I can stand the wait. I wish you lots of luck and can't wait to hear more about your progress.

Day 5 incubation. Marked my air cells. Have two with no growth out of 16 silkie eggs. One of my paints and one of my porcelains. My two cuckoo have some veins but not anything else. There are some with eye spots though! So excited!

That's really cool, KV. Best of luck to you...and the future chickies!

I'm a little on the bumming side with my hatch. I candled last night and didn't see ANYTHING! It was only day 4/5, but I thought I would see the start of something in at least one of the 7. They were set on Jan 29. These are eggs from my own silkies that are proven breeders from last year.

Ok, my question would be, could they just be late starters? I'm going to candle again on day 7. If there is nothing then, then they must have been infertile, correct? I checked some of their recent eggs for fertility and it was a little hard to see the bullseye, but there is a faint ring. Just enough to keep me guessing.

I'm day 7 with shipped eggs and 4 have eye spots. Could be late starters. Give them till day 10 and then if there is obviously no growth start over.

@LisaLouHoo don't lose hope! i'm with Tammylr, give em till day 10. Hang in there! is nothing worse than checking and seeing nada. At least with your own eggs you can grab a few more and start again. Fingers crossed for veining in a few more days!!!

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the encouragement. I'm praying that they start developing soon. I have a really good candler, so I can't blame it on that. If they do start late, then I'll be able to pass that on to someone else who candles at this point and doesn't see anything.

Eggs are here! woohoo!!! 15 of them! love the extras... one has a little chip in it... so we'll see, have them resting right now, so excited to get them in the bator!!! gonna wait till first candle to toss some under my broody as it's colder than all get out by us right now... hope everyone's hatches are doing good!

It appears that Elvis isn't much of a stud. I might have to change his name to Dudley. All 7 of my eggs were clear on Day 7, so nothing to do but switch to OE eggs, lol. I'll be moving to another hatching thread, but i wish everyone here the best of luck with their silkie hatches. Silkies are the sweetest chicken out there!!!
