Silkie Hatch-A-Long 2015

Today was my day 7 out of 14 eggs I had 10 devoloping, 3 clears and one red ring that I pulled. I decided to pull after looking at a ton of pics, recandled, and did the water thing to check for wiggling. All 4 of those eggs had air cell issues from the beginning. One clear was completely detached, to clears with saddle shaped air cells, and the red ring egg had a loose cell. Now the hurry up and wait continues.

I have seven eggs out of 13 that hatched... They decided to come early as easter morning would be 21 days One is still in the bator I had to help it out a lil as it was stuck in the egg.. 4 did not hatch out ;( they died before the could make it all the way out. Two that haven't piped yet I'm still hoping to see something happen with the 2 that's left and I'm hoping I wasn't too late on helping the one and only black one ... It's still alive! Just waiting to see if it will pull through. But here are the six that are now in my brooder :D

We have not had great success hatching SIlkies
but we do have 4 that held on until Lockdown this go around out of 10 to start..
Our hatch is behind due to power outage his week but things are stared with the
others o we are awaiting silkie babies

Should be hatching in next day or so if they are going to hatch.

We are planning on another batch in next week to try, they will be shipped eggs but we are diligent and will hatch them with our Lavender Orpington eggs.

Our Very First Orpington egg hatched, it loks lke a splash from our Lavenders...hmmm

I think that is very cool, we wanted a few splashes, blues, and blacks.

Silkies are hard to hatch for some reason. I put in 15 eggs and only 7 hatched out the rest either died while zipping or right after they pipped. I don't know the reason for it... But I've had a pretty good hatch rate (I guess) so far. I have two incubators one with forced air and the other without. I have an automatic egg turner too. I have trouble with the black ones when they hatch??? It still puzzles me but out of about 25 chicks only two black ones survived... But I will keep at it oh even the one my Broody hen hatched died shortly after.. It's was black also.

Alright I am officially in lockdown day 18
Out of 14 shipped eggs 10 made it to lock down with movement in each one..fingers and toes crossed. I read in a couple of places that silkie/bantam eggs seemed to hatch earlier- has anyone here had that happen??

Yes I have had some hatch as early as day18 or 19.... as soon as I stop turning the eggs...laid them on their side and the next day they were here... I've also had some late ones 23 days ??? So there's no way to pin point the hatching out day....
