Silkie Hatch-A-Long

Hey everyone! Love to see other silkie lovers! This is my first all silkie hatch! I set 14 splash and red silkie eggs on Feb 19th. All the eggs were shipped from My Pet Chicken and since ordering I've read some really bad reviews of their hatching eggs so I'm not expecting a great hatch. I candled them on day 7 and maybe 5 looked like they were developing? Considering they're an unreliable dealer and were shipped in the dead of winter I'm gonna be pretty pleased if any chicks show up on hatch day lol! Good luck everyone else!

Well last years chixks decided to present me with 3 eggs today that I found before they froze. So what did I do...warmed them up and threw them in bator. Have to check and make sure the roos are doing their job right? I really think I have a hatching problem. Lol

Ok, we'll see if we get any takers, I set 28 silkie eggs on 02/06, did a 5 day candle last night and 19 viable!!!  :yesss:   sooo excited!!!  Anyone else out there setting silkie eggs or getting close to hatch? :caf
I have three silkies that we got last October. One has gone broody and setting on three eggs. I have a roo but don't know if eggs are fertile or not. Has now been on them for four days

Before I left for dinner one of my babies hatched. Not a silkie but one has externally pipped. Maybe when I get home there will be more. Pictures later.

Spring is coming. Has to be with all the babies and broodies. Please let it be, I beg you please. Supposed to get 3 to 6 inches of snow tonight. At least not sub zero daytime temps. :)

i'm trying to get silkies but everywhere I go nothing I want pullets so I can have brooders but every where I look its straight run.... can someone help me out on locating some... and good luck to yall on your egg hatching

@ThackerArrykka silkies take months before you can tell what sex they are and even then unless you see them crow or lay an egg its usually a guess. That's why only sold as straight run as chicks. Sometimes breeders sell older pullets or hens if they don't meet their breeding or show standard but expext to pay more for them than a chick. And Welcome to byc. You'll love it here. Everyone is nice and helpfull
