I got my four silkies (along with one White Plymouth Rock) from Meyer Hatchery and they all came in strong and active, all grew into really gorgeous birds too, and I feel like they have a good breed standard compliance too - good feathering, bright coloring, etc... I got the assorted silkie bantam mix and ended up with two whites and two buffs, one male and three females (straight run). The silkies only come as a straight run. You can see one of the buff chicks in my avatar.
I just ordered four more chicks from Meyer that came in this Tuesday - a Speckled Sussex, a golden laced Wyandotte, a golden laced Polish, and a Black Jersey Giant. All came in healthy and are growing like weeds already. The Black Jersey Giant chick was a little lethargic the first evening after being shipped to the point that I contacted customer support just to let them know. They were very sympathetic and told me to keep them informed as to how the chick did, since they have a 48-hour live arrival policy. Well I gave the chick a bit of extra TLC and now she's doing fine.
I have been very impressed with this hatchery so far. I've been able to swap breeds after an order through a live chat screen. The hatchery texted me on this last order about an issue with the hatch (I ended up needing to make a substitution) and when I called the I was speaking with a real person in seconds, who gave me a pretty wide variety of substitutions to choose from on the chick I couldn't get (silver laced Polish).
A+ customer service, great shipping methods, obvious care for the animals from the people who work there. They also have this cool program called a Meyer Meal Maker where they will give you a free chick with your order (their choice, but it will be a same type as the rest of your order, either layer or meat chicken) if you promise to give away some of your eggs or meat to other people and promote chicken-keeping.
