Silkie Haters

My DH got me addicted to these sites(BYC & BYH). I will admit I'm just a looker but when I read that there was such a thing as a "Silkie HATER", I just couldn't believe it . I mean , that's just against nature to dislike something fuzzy. I have read alot where people wish their chicks would stay little and fuzzy, well folks it don't get any closer than a silky.

I found my roo on cl and have loved him ever since. I love him so much I had my DH build him his own BARN . Now I need to find him some "lady friends" so I can start my SILKIE PLANTATION. Yes I plan to over run the world with beautiful silkies (well at least my world).

Hey , maybe us silkie lovers should unite and start a silkie fad. You know like the little dog fad. We could start diapering them and carrying them around in our couch bags!!!

DOWN WITH THE HATERS!!!!

Silkieflock, that coop is soooo cool!! I really like that!!

I totally dislike poodles, but silkies- they aren't poodles, not by far!!

out of my 22 chicks, 2 are silkies. my little boy, Hansel, is a total lap chicken complete with spoiled jealous attitude, while his sister, Gretel, could care less if i died, other than she probably wouldn't get fed (she's really really cute though, so it kinda balances out). i wanted them because i'd read so much about their excellent broodiness and how they were like a walking incubator. so i'm hoping Gretel (and maybe even Hansel) will play nurserymaid to my future standard chicks. i'll never have lots of them, but i really like them being around.

several of my standard breed chickens are cuddlers. my brahma cockerel, Earnest, is a total love fest. he and Hansel will get into little tiffs over who gets picked up first. which is outrageously hilarious as Earnest is about 4x the size of Hansel! my Orpington cockerel, Gulliver, likes to sit in my lap and have his back patted. my EE pullet, Amelia, doesn't like to be cuddled really, but she has to come over and greet me and she likes a good chest rub. they're only 7 weeks old, so maybe things will change, but for now i'm loving all the little chickens sitting around wanting my attention!

You do not like them in a box, you MIGHT like them with a fox...

(continuation of Sam I Am - - was reading to my brother the other day...)

It's a kiwi...and if I had one I would be VERY lucky. They're a rare breed of native bird to New Zealand (go to Australia, turn left) so I have only seen them once or twice in my lifetime...that one happens to be a chick...they sort of have silkie feathering, with a very long beak, big feet and really small wings. They CANNOT fly, and spend all of their life on the ground.
Really sweet wee things that are in a lot of trouble right now... I just adore them...

(edited to add) They're also nocturnal, and are about the size of a chicken when full grown. Mainly wild, except some kept in captivity for breeding. Enough of kiwi talk..

Yeah I like showing off my hubbies work. He is the talented and creative one. I'm good at buying and bossing:hu
My silkie barn is in desperate need of a few ladies too complete the look, but I haven't seen any lately.

I hope I don't have to wait until spring. I just don't know how I'll get through the winter . Not sure how the subject started started but no poodles here, give me a chicken any day. Check out my Rabbit hutch (also built by dh) wouldn't it make a great silkie chick brooder? Anything to help the cause!

First a silkie on your counter thawing...... lol....

Someone told me once that they ate silkies before.
They said the meat was a gray color. Is that true.
I was wonder for some of the silkes that I can never give away
I don't know f I could get past the grey looking meat.

He tried doing it for a living but we think it is the wrong time of year...? It definently wasn't the price tag, because they are the same price as the plain ones they sell at feed stores. He would have loved to sell more if they would sell but he will be wrapped up in college now and probably won't have time to build another for a while. He is going to college for a degree in veterinary medicine. I am sure if someone wanted one, he would find time for them in between semesters to build one. He likes the silky too as they make his barn look stylish!
