ok, quick question, so if I put my eggs into the incubator on wednesday night at 730 does that mean wednesday was day 1? or should I count thursday as day 1? (trying to figure for candling....) I started turning 36 hours later so am on track for that, but just curious...

If you set on wendsday......count three wendsdays ahead.That is hatch day.............

Today is day 5 for me, and I just had to candle. Out of my 12 eggs, 8 are for sure developing, 2 are porous and look clear but I haven't tossed them and the other 2 looked clear as well. I'll likely pitch them on day 10 when I candle again.

At least my rooster is doing his job, I wasn't sure about that guy! Good luck everyone

hi, today is day 6 for me.... I am tempted to candle tonight, at day 6 should I be able to see veining? I peeked at a couple of them a few days ago and of course didn't see squat... no veining = no chick growing right? not that i'm gonna toss anyone, will wait till day 10 and peek again.

You should be able to see something by now. Most people do their first candling on day 7, there isn't a huge difference between day 6 and 7

If you Google "egg candling pictures" there are some chart that show each day of incubation. They're a handy tool for figuring out where your eggs should be as far as development. Good luck!

Only 6 days left for me! Do you guys lock down 3 days before or 2 days before? This is my first time hatching in cartons and I'm a little nervous. Should I lay them flat for hatching?

ok, I couldn't wait... I canlded during my lunch hour, it is day 6 today, out of 20 eggs I saw 6 of them I am wondering if are growing.... one for sure has veining, (woohoo!) 4 others were tough to tell, and another had a dark spot in it? which i'm hoping is a chick.... then are about 4 that I just can't see through the darn shell at all, darker eggs n thicker shells. and then my porous eggs, tough to tell. sheesh! candling again wednesday night to hopefully see some more action! I am excited with my one veining! but sooooo hoping I can at least hatch two of them!!! (one is the loneliest number....)

now to be patient.... lol

@kv silkies. i went to wlmart and bought a 200 lumens flashlight amd there was no doubting what was good or not. believe it was 15 dollars. yea on veins.

I am there... can't get to walmart today, hoping tomorrow..... thank you! I am all yea on veins, just wish I was 100% sure on more than one of them! lol. how is your group doing jorey? what day you on now? you are having 11 coming right? colors? you have silkies now?

lock down is thursday night. i have 3 paint eggs 3 splash one white one black and the rest are bbs. i have silkies and showgirls now. partridge, white, splash, and blue. they are spring 2013 babies. hopefully they lay good this spring. do you have silkies already?
