Silkie Holiday Hatch-a-long

hi, so today is my canlding on day 10.... if the eggs are totally clear I am going to take them out and see what I can see... (try and tell if fertile or not) anything I might be doubting i'm leaving in. will leaving them in (ones i'm doubting) in any way hurt my little egg that is developing? and the egg that I think has a blood ring.... do I take that one out as well? nothing stinks yet, but I am just worried of something hurting my little lone eggie at this point....

thanks!

We had an egg that looked like it was not viable, another wasn't fertile, and we couldn't see veining in some. Good thing we left them in. 6 were viable, when we thought only 2 were. We left everything in, even the egg with nothing in it for 25 days. Those 6 grew to full size chicks, but 1 got stuck in it's shell and didn't make it but I think with help we could've saved it, and the other 2 seemed to be late deaths, fully formed but never pip through the shell. I'm glad we left them all in as 1 more could've been a hatchling. Our birds are dark, black skin and dark feathers so this may have been why we didn't see them as good? Not sure, but they hatched!
We ended up with the 3 and they are ever so close. They play like puppies. The smooth sizzle takes a piece of pine shaving and plays keep away from the frizzle. The silkie just watches them, she's very shy. I hope you get at least 2, it's so much fun to see them interact. If it were me, I'd leave them all in and hope for at least 2. I don't think anything is going to hurt if you have a lone hatchling, but if you have more viable hatchlings, then you'll regret it if you take them out and they "could have been" a chick. We had the 2 duds in with the others for 25 days and it didn't bother them at all. I think that whole ring of death thing is for very experienced egg candlers. I wouldn't know a ring of death if it bit me.
Maybe try recandling on day 14, but even if you don't see something, if it's dark in there, it could be a bird with dark feathers, like we had!

Thanks for the smilies they about cover how I feel. Lol. These guys aren't due to hatch till Sunday either but this little one is ready I guess. Hope it hatches overnight. I have to be to work at 530 in morning. Yea!!!! On the quail. Their so tiny and cute.

Anyone ever have a silkie hen quit setting at the last minute? I have this sweet little white girl that has been setting some eggs for 3 weeks. 3 of the five were duds but the other two were due to hatch tomorrow. I went to check on her today, and she was sitting in a different nest box on some new / just laid eggs. I couldn't believer it! She's only 10 months old but has been doing a beautiful job until today. I grabbed the eggs - both cold - ugh! I run inside and candled them, no movement, but the incubator was already running as I have about a dozen in there on day 7, so I figured what could it hurt to drop them in there and see what happens. We were on our way out the door and were gone most of the afternoon. When I got home, to my shock, both eggs have pipped! Since I was about to leave and didn't think they had a chance, I'd just set them on the turning rack, but when I saw that they'd pipped I quickly pulled out two rows of racks to make room and laid them on the wire. Don't know if they'll make it after all that, but at least one of them was chirping a bit ago. Wild ride!

Nice! That's amazing. Maybe the hen heard something and thought she was done?

Hope they are a successful hatch!
