hi, so today is my canlding on day 10.... if the eggs are totally clear I am going to take them out and see what I can see... (try and tell if fertile or not) anything I might be doubting i'm leaving in. will leaving them in (ones i'm doubting) in any way hurt my little egg that is developing? and the egg that I think has a blood ring.... do I take that one out as well? nothing stinks yet, but I am just worried of something hurting my little lone eggie at this point....![]()
thanks!
We had an egg that looked like it was not viable, another wasn't fertile, and we couldn't see veining in some. Good thing we left them in. 6 were viable, when we thought only 2 were. We left everything in, even the egg with nothing in it for 25 days. Those 6 grew to full size chicks, but 1 got stuck in it's shell and didn't make it but I think with help we could've saved it, and the other 2 seemed to be late deaths, fully formed but never pip through the shell. I'm glad we left them all in as 1 more could've been a hatchling. Our birds are dark, black skin and dark feathers so this may have been why we didn't see them as good? Not sure, but they hatched!
We ended up with the 3 and they are ever so close. They play like puppies. The smooth sizzle takes a piece of pine shaving and plays keep away from the frizzle. The silkie just watches them, she's very shy. I hope you get at least 2, it's so much fun to see them interact. If it were me, I'd leave them all in and hope for at least 2. I don't think anything is going to hurt if you have a lone hatchling, but if you have more viable hatchlings, then you'll regret it if you take them out and they "could have been" a chick. We had the 2 duds in with the others for 25 days and it didn't bother them at all. I think that whole ring of death thing is for very experienced egg candlers. I wouldn't know a ring of death if it bit me.
Maybe try recandling on day 14, but even if you don't see something, if it's dark in there, it could be a bird with dark feathers, like we had!
