Silkie is yawning non stop, help!

Hmmm...now I'm not quite so sure. Did the vet say there was an overload/high count or did they just find Coccidia in the stool sample?

If it's overload and you already treated with Corid, then I'm like Kiki, you may need to treat with a Sulfa medication too.

There's always a possibility that if you are dealing with Marek's, that a Coccidiosis overload is opportunistic and reoccurring.

She didn’t. They weren’t thrilled to even do the testing, they kept saying they can only do it if they see the chicken. I had to argue with them that I’m not asking them to prescribe anything just to provide the test. I think you may have a great point that the mareks is a factor here. I’m wondering if I should treat with Corid then do another few fecal floats to make sure it’s gone? And if not proceed with another treatment?

It probably won't hurt to treat them again with the Corid. I would follow up with vitamins and probiotics after you finish treatment.

You may want to source someone else to do your testing if they are that difficult to deal with. Will Cornell do just fecal testing for you? I know some state labs offer those services too. If not, mail order might be an option for you

@KikisGirls is Sue still doing fecals, do you know?

I saw her offer to test someone's recently but I don't remember off hand who.

I am pretty sure all state labs will test mailed in poop.

I am willing to bet that this is going to be a reoccurring issue because of the Marek's.
It can't possibly hurt to treat everyone with Corid but since this silkie's poop was ok and she is now showing signs of illness then it is probably the Marek's itself causing her problems.

I am afraid there isn't really much that can be done for her.
I don't say this in an ugly way, I promise, it's just no amount of medicine is going to prolong her life if it is the Marek's coming out. Gosh I would hate to be in your shoes right now and I feel bad that there is really no simple answer for you.

The other random coccidia positive poop could possibly be helped with another round of Corid or it may need a sulfa drug.

Remember your first one that started with the yawning issues...She ended up having fluid in her lungs.
I am afraid the same thing might be happening to this one.

I added some warm water to their food last night and some yogurt, they loved it. The Silkie ate quite a bit and then hunkered down with her feathers fluffed. I checked all of their crops before they slept and they were all pretty much the same, full and hard. Hers was mushier. I gave her coconut oil. When I checked this morning hers had gone down and she is acting much better. I won’t allow myself to get too hopeful....but it would be amazing if she can make it through whatever this is. I’ve also emailed Cornell to find out if they offer fecal testing.

They do offer the test.
Here is a link to their website where you can see all the testing offered including pricing.

It good that her crop was down this morning. You may want to give her the coconut oil again tonight, then massage her crop a little. Even if she has something else going on, getting the crop moving the best you can will make her feel better.

Absolutely will do!! She was dirt bathing today which she hasn’t done in a long time ❤️ I will do whatever I can to give her the best chance she has.
