Hi guys I’m after some advice. My silkie has just started laying but it is behaving odd. It has separated itself from the flock doesn’t move very much and appears lethargic. I was worried it was Dying. It has now laid 3 soft shell eggs in a day and a half and I found it eating one.

I feel that she is probably lethargic due to the amount of energy being used to lay 3 eggs in such a short time. Is this normal when they first start laying and if so will she normalise?

Advice is greatly appreciated please

It's not normal. Her reproductive system is not fully developed and it sounds like the shell gland is not up to par yet.
I would feed her calcium citrate with D3, 500 mg daily (read the bottle so you know how many tablets that is) until she lays a normal egg. That will help make sure her body has enough calcium to form a shell and to help with contractions.
Yes, it is exhausting for a pullet to push against a soft shell/shell-less egg to expel it while others are coming down the plumbing and backing up in the system.
