I have a 9mo old satin silkie who lost her best friend a week ago. Her bestie was fumbling all over herself, loss of balance, would fall and couldn’t get up, then started walking backward, threw up when i picked her up and had green diarrhea- took her to er on NYE and the vet didn’t even look at her just made me put her down I’ve been heartbroken about it.

Anyways since then this one has been off, at times calling for her but she kinda sits hunched and head down at times, will stay to herself at times with her head tucked under wing, her wings are low, her appetite is down i feel, she does feel skinny but she is the smallest out of them. I saw her fumble a little yesterday once or twice but not anywhere near the one who passed and i didn’t see her do it today. She perks up when she sees me and wants to he close by. It’s also been frigid cold and windy i do have the run wrapped and the coop has shredded straw and a chick cozy smart heater plate but i notice she shivers at times.

Idk what it is. I’m worried about coccidiosis or mareks but she doesn’t seem lame or paralyzed, no diarrhea. Her eating and drinking is down for sure. I’m also worried about worms/ parasites or vitamin deficiency. Other 3 silkies seem completely fine.

Please help i can’t loose another one

She and the other one that died could be suffering from hypothermia. Try offering one cup of warm water with one teaspoon sugar mixed in. Add a pinch of salt and baking soda for good measure to assure her electrolytes are balanced.

Warm her by wrapping her snuggly in a towel warmed in the dryer. I give my chickens a heat lamp in their run to warm up under when it's below freezing. I also allow them to have extra scratch grains and BOSS for extra calories to generate body heat. It helps.

Giving her a warm up and electrolytes is a great idea. I'd do as suggested in Post#3

In addition to the warm up and getting her hydrated, I'd also start her on Vitamin Therapy since she's a crested bird and you are seeing some signs of stumbling/walking backwards.
Give her 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex daily along with a little egg. See that she's eating well.

Check her for lice/mites while you have her up and make sure her crop is emptying overnight.

Can she see well? If in doubt, give her facial feathers around the eyes a trim to insure she can see.

If possible, get a fecal float through your vet to rule out worms as part of the problem. Take a sample of her poop in.

What are the signs of hypothermia? Also I’ve never given scratch grains. What kind should i get and how much? And what is BOSS?

Where do i get vitamin e and b complex? And how much is 400iu?
I did give her a haircut but i feel like it still isn’t good enough. I can’t seem to trim around her eyes well and what’s the best way to check for mites? I’m going to be sending out a fecal sample as well

Hypothermia symptoms are lethargy, imbalance, lameness, and weakness. Scratch grains are sold at feed stores and are a mix of cracked corn and other seeds. They typically are high in carbs that will generate metabolism and body heat. BOSS stands for black oil sunflower seeds. They are high in protein and carbs. Also sold as wild bird seeds.

You can buy B-complex and vitamin E at any pharmacy where they sell people vitamins.
