Silkie paralyzed, better again. *Sad update Pg.10*

you might give her a stuffed animal or mirror, in case she is lonely- how close is her pen to the other house chicken?

She's outside now in her pen in the shade on even ground, Bee was being a snot so they have been pretty far apart. For some reason all of my Seramas turned out to be horribly chicken aggressive, for 6 inches of height she's gotta temper to make up for the rest.

She has friends visiting her outside, a duck and one of our freerangers.

I'm so Sorry Gerbil! I wish I had seen this thread earlier... I came after Louie's Rooster was better, And I always come to late to help! Make sure you give her something with Electrolites, like Gatorade. That's all I got!

Get better Puddles!

Thanks 44.

She's better aside from the occasional stumble. Thanks everyone very much.

I'm just hoping she doesn't relapse again, if she does I think I will just put her down. I will keep her on vitamins for little while longer, try and reintroduce her to one of her pullet friends.

Thank you Three ceders!

She is back to complete normality as far as I can tell, she seemed to be having a little trouble seeing so I trimmed back her crest and beard a ways. She is getting along with my house chicken Bee now, took some time but their pretty much accepting each other.

I just got to this post and I wasn't able to read through verything but what did you find could have caused this? I am so glad she is doing better!

I don't know, Botchulism or something genetic I'm thinking.
I really didn't notice until recently how small she is, a little more than half the size of my other hens. I don't know if it's related or not.

Anyways, she is doing awesomely. Laying eggs up a storm, no signs she ever was ill!
Loves to take dust baths in the garden, eats everything she can get into her beak.

Thanks for letting me know about your girl and I am glad she had a full recovery!!!

I read through your post again because 3 weeks ago, I started to have problems with my flock. I have a silkie/leghorn pullet that developed paralysis of her left leg suddenly one day and by the next day her right was paralyzed too. It has been touch and go these past few weeks but has recently really picked up eating. I have her on supplements and baby parrot food. I did take her to the vet and they have no idea what is wrong with her either. She never appeared sick at all, poos were normal but seemed weak because of her paralysis. In the past week I have seen movement in her toes! Her Left foot seems spastic and her Right leg seems flaccid. One thing was that she had been covered in lice/mites. I treated a couple of times since then, did total clean out and treated the coop. I checked the rest of my flock and I didn’t see any signs of the lice/mites but treated everything anyhow. Now on Saturday, I noticed another silkie girl about three months older than the original one, acting off, seemed weak but is not paralyzed. She is able to walk and has full function of her legs but does lose her balance. Now this one is covered in lice/mites! I just treated and didn’t see any signs of infestation and here 3 weeks later I find her like this??? So, treated her and the coop again. Check others and not seeing anything on them. Both of these girls are in the house. The silkie does seem small like you said yours did too. She didn’t seem too good this morning before I left for work. I am going to keep trying with her but it didn’t seem promising when I left. My silkie/leghorn mix is thriving though. Still paralyzed but putting on weight and seems to be getting stronger. I have no idea what has happened. If their problems are related or not. Symptoms are different but they both were infested when I can’t see anything on anyone else! It is really driving me crazy trying to figure out what is causing this or if more will be affected?
