My little black silkie, which I personally hatched out near 1 year ago is appearing healthy but for lately doing the "neck screwy" thing. She has been broody the past couple of weeks and laying eggs perhaps every other day or so.
I have booted her out of the nest to eat/drink. I have administered a couple of baby vitamin drops (polyvisol-no iron) directly into her mouth for the past 4 days or so and I am hoping this corrects her problem.
I checked for mites and she as well as the entire flock of 6 other hens are clean/spotless......she is eating well (including additional greens/oyster shell/grit/proteins/meat/beans) and foraging every day for a couple of hours at least in my large yard.
Her crop is normally filling emptying etc. She is the tiniest silkie I ever had and less than 1 lb. most likely. Adorable black little girl and had an large alpha attitude being 2nd. in control although being the smallest of my crew.
Alert and and beautiful with shiny feathers...clear eyes/nose/feet/legs. I just want to make sure i am doing all I can for this likely "neurological thing". She has never exhibited this behavior before this time. I keep adding goodies to their diet as this winter has been a tougher one than most here in Southern NYC area. It has been cold.....warm.....cold to the extremes.
Am I doing all I can? Comments and suggestions are much appreciated.
Best wishes,
maggie
