Silkie Question

Looking closely... those feathers just that you say are sticking out... that is what my chicks looked like as they were loosing the baby down and gaining their "big" girl/boy feathers.
You are right in the fact that I don't see any type of crest coming in.

lol thanks, I LOVE pictures... and I often have to refrain from posting to many... and some may say there is no such thing, but there is lol.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes they are from a hatchery, Its ok if she doesn't have the BIG top not, even though I LOVE them. I just wasn't able to find a picture of a silkie with a head of feathers like this and was starting to wonder if I accidently got some sort of mutt lol. As long as she doesn't have a wompy head like she does now we will be good lol.

I have read that Silkies have a generally sweet personality, but her and my other barred Cochin act nothing like my boy. They would rather sit back and watch, or follow him around then to venture off and inspect things on their own. He is also already getting protective of them, which I would think he wouldn't care much... if at all, if the silkie were male. They aren't mean either, like he is already starting to be, he doesn't know it yet but once these girls get old enough to bring in the roo that my mom gave me he is gone.

Nope, definitely still feathering out so no need to worry!

If you look at pics of hatchery stock Silkies on here, it will give you an idea of what you can expect her to look like!

And yes, Silkies are sweeties!

Thanks!

I plan to get serious with my chickens later on,(as in breeding and quality etc.) but figured I would start out with hatchery chicks. Especially since I don't know what i'm looking for to begin with. That and we are buying a house so I won't have the set up I want for that type of operation until we can build it at the new place.

Thanks for the info everyone!
