Silkie roo can't walk - necropsy results

eee/ewe doesn't usually affect chickens but it sure does a number on them when they get it. if they survive they can be blind the rest of their life and be paralyzed. i was afraid this happened to one of my young roos earlier this year and just after his symptoms started in him we had a local pheasant farm diagnosed with it in half their flock. they destroyed the remainder of the flock as a precaution.

i don't think you should destroy any of your birds unless told by a professional first since it seems to be rare in chickens but more prone to pheasants.

You're right, Moma. Chickens don't need to be culled as a precaution. Down here in Florida I think EEE or WEE is not that unusual. You can even vaccinate the chickens for EEE and WEE.

This makes me nervous. I have head shaking chicks (Orpingtons and Silkies) with no known cause and I'm in Hillsborough County. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope it's only the one.

And Moma, I think my silkie roo had a weak immune system. In the summer, he was the only one who got coccidiosis.
