silkie rooster personality

There's nice roosters and then there's not so nice roosters. I know people will say orpington roosters are nice roosters. My orpington would flog you ever once in awhile, but once he was put in his place he would leave you alone for awhile. So any rooster can be nice or can be mean.

I can get flogged if I mess with the girls and make them squawk, but only at that time.. They are always very calm otherwise.

They can't do any real damage with their size unless it is a toddler.. They can't jump higher than shins lol

For those of you with rooster experience - are there nice roosters out there? Or do you just have to know how to handle roosters?
Both, like i said there will always be means ones and nicer ones, plus there is a way to handle roosters... all the ones here have very different personalities, i can certainly handle any one of them, same as my drakes.. i just keep firm lines with them vs the girls which you can be a bit more relaxed with.

I guess I'm just not a rooster person. I'm ok with that, I think. I just have to find a good home for my little guy

question u guys.. can anyone tell me if the silkie roos are generally aggressive or not .. i know each bird will have its own personality ( which is y i enjoy each individual chicken so much ) but i just didnt know since silkies tend to be docile if the roos are as well.. they are beautiful and i'd really like one , but i would not like to be attacked daily..lol. we are trying to branch into a show silkie for the boys to show in the JR shows possibly a pair and my oldest son (13) really prefers a rooster anyway , but i dont want to get him a dangerous pet.. i know they are small so even with any aggression are they actually dangerous? or are they friendly usually
I have had 2 silkie roos and they have been very sweet never aggressive. I have one now and he is the sweetest roo, he has taken my new silkie hen under his wing and has been so good with her. It so cute to see him get her food and get her in the coop at night and fluff her nest box for her, He's kinda silly. He comes to me when I call him and he eats out of my hand, never has he tried to flog me or anyone who comes in the yard. But he will alert me when someone or something comes in the yard. I would say silkie roos are good to have in your flock.

Reeealy old post but since it has been revived I may as well chime in:

We ended up with a silkie roo. He’s a turd. We have a giant Brahma, sweet and polite as can be. Doesn’t like to be handled, but never bothers anyone, feathered or no (he’s also the oldest, and top, rooster and the one in my profile pic). We also have a welsummer roo. Not as polite as the Brahma but not what I would call mean. Then there is the creve roo (who is currently going through some stuff) he’s the low man on the totem pole and terribly skittish. But the silkie is just a jerk. He doesn’t act up towards us humans but man is he ever mean to the other chickens (except the Brahma). My son named him “sir butts a lot.”

Sometimes it seems like he trying to be good and treat the hens well then he’s off chasing and attacking someone for no apparent reason. He’s also the noisiest of all of them. The others crow sometimes but he is constantly making noise. And it’s not even a good crow. Don’t get me wrong, I like a good sounding rooster, the welsummer has a beautiful, deep rich voice. But the silkie you could hardly classify as deep or rich, or really even a crow.

He’s cute I guess but that’s pretty much all he’s got going for him. My wife won’t let us eat our chickens since to her they are 100% pet but even we did there’s nothing on him we could eat. So unfortunately we are stuck with him for the time being. The hens may be sweet and docile (and our silkie hen is even though she’s kinda ugly) but in my limited experience, the Roos are straight up butt holes.

Hi, I currently have 7 silkie roosters. All of them are very sweet, they are actually kind of shy rather than aggressive. I have them in a bachelor pen, they are my breeding stock. I have had the best of luck with Silkies, they are such a sweet bread.
