Any chance this little one could be a pullet? It is 8 weeks. The other two have definite wattles, I thought this one was probably a cockerel, but I'm not seeing wattles like the others yet. I would love to have 2 pullets!!!

I found someone 2 hours away on CL who says they are breeding Silkies to the SOP and have hatching eggs, maybe next year!!!

Since you aren't seeing any wattles yet at 8 weeks, it's most likely a pullet, although I am not an expert on Silkies! Adorable though!

Now I have goals of buying my silkies breeder, if not show quality eggs to hatch out! Hehe.

You definitely can't go wrong when you purchase quality birds or eggs!

Our cat isn't quite a year old yet and thinks he might be able to take on a chick. Is it me, or does he only have the silkie in his sights!?! The chicks ended up crowding around him, then they got scared, so he got scared and ran off

How did I miss this!?!

I think it would be a good learning experience to try to breed to the SOP, I'm just not sure what breed to do. Even if we do silkies I'd still like to have a second breed that is standard or large sized dual purpose or at least more egg focused. I'm just not sure which one. I believe my SLWs I just got will be WAY off the standard and the rest of my chickens are pretty random, I think we have 6 breeds right now. We don't have any yet, but maybe try breeding Blue Jersey Giants? I have a BJG, she's really cool!
