Silkie saga

This is the photo with the ad, if these are some of the chicks hatched from these eggs 🤩🤩🤩 how am I supposed to remain a responsible adult and make choices the hubby will approve of??? Look at the floofs and the pretty blue down 😍 they're just too adorable to not buy hatching eggs 😭
When it comes to adorable chickens, I don't think any of us are responsible adults. :gigI think you should do it, purchase those eggies!!!!

And... my friend said she'd buy a couple of the chicks if I hatch them. Decisions, decisions... and a lot of convincing to be done with the hubby. They are 50/doz and I was thinking to get the best choice of chicks for both of us to pick from I would need to buy 2 doz. Then sell any extras. Maybe...
Tell the hubby you stand to make big money on selling the chicks, men are so lured into things that involve money. :gig

Well... I would have at least 10 weeks to figure things out, 3 weeks to hatch, another 7 before going out to the coop, and I haven't cleaned up the porch from growing out the last set so, really, no biggie! And yeah, if I could make some $ with them I'm sure he'd be on board!. I can sell one of my current white silkie cockerels, and I could sell any extra chicks for at least 15 each right?

I mean, and really, it would be great to do a test run of seeing if I could make some cash off the silkies this year before really investing into them next year. I can really see some pros on this mid-year hatch thing.

Silkies are pretty sought after, I am really not sure what price you could sell them for. However I bet it's more than you think. Do some research here on BYC and on line. Especially for next spring during chick season!

Yet another reason to do a test run now! Then I can save the pullets, and maybe one more cockerel, then I'll have my own breeding pen to raise from next year 😃 ok, I know I've over simplified everything, but we'll just run with this for now 🤣

Definitely start now, shake out the bugs and by spring you will be in business! :woot

Big news update! I'm picking up silkie hatching eggs tomorrow from the local person who is starting their breeding pen of silkies! It's a blue satin roo over splash silkie hens. I'm excited! My friend is letting me borrow her Nature right 360 and she wants to buy 6 chicks. Whoop whoop!

So far their hatch has been about 50/50 on satin and silkied chicks which is great since I want the silkie feathered ones, but, why not keep a satin or two around? 😃 I plan on having a flock of 8 silkies at this point, they'll be in my third coop and I might keep one white roo from TSC. Now I'm wondering, if my agreement is to have 8 silkies, if I also have satin do they, or do they not count toward my silkie headcount?
