silkie sexing

atrueb00, I think so. Gracey used to sometimes. We thought she was a roo for a while but SHE LAID HER FIRST EGG TODAY!

Sososososososo proud!!! :D

Do both male and female silkies ruffle their neck feathers during confrontation? I have noticed some of my 19 week old silkies lean forward towards each other and stand the neck feathers on their necks. A couple of them haven't been sexed yet and are too close to tell.
They do, I often see my baby chicks confronting my Silkie Mellow, by raising their neck feathers. Mellow then lifts her neck and raises her neck feathers as well, and she always wins. :)

Well the first one is a splash, paint tend to look more like dalmations and the whole feather is black or blue, instead of just the tip like in splash. I agree the partridge looks like a pullet but you never know. And for crowing and laying.. My roo crowed at six weeks but it isn't the same for every chicken.

These are my silkies I think they are a pair

This is the rooster ( bigger comb, and posture)

Feel free to sex them because I am not sure. I hope some day I will find a silkie egg :fl

The one you say is a roo is definatly a roo. ANd for the other one the comb looks a bit large for a hen but the crest is pretty round. How old are they? And can you get more pictures from different veiws of the "hen"?

I'm sorry but I think you have two roosters.. The comb on that one is pretty large and I see some streamers coming out of the crest. I guess roo but you should just wait and see.
