I'm no expert but I don't think girl silkies have wattles and if so definetly not that big at 11 weeks. My 17 week old girl and unknown don't have any wattles.... So I'd say Tiny is a boy .... Sorry

I posted this a few days ago but I think it got overlooked, could someone please give me their opinion on Tiny? I have the opportunity to send all my suspected boys to a farm next week and I wouldn't want to send Tiny if there's any chance he/she is still a girl! Thanks.

Tiny looks Girly to me I don't see Streamers...my non bearded spring pullet has wattles (bigger actually) like your Tiny. If you can, hold out a bit longer if you can and see if anyone else responds! There's a Tiny chance she's a Girl...heheheee

Honestly, I have no idea. I don't see any streamers, but tiny has a wide comb.... I don't know!
I would hold on to him/her for a bit longer though...there's still hope it's a girl!

I would say both tiny and peanut are roosters. My silkie girls didn't have waddles or combs that big at 11 weeks. The boys did though.....

Thanks everyone for your replies. Peanut crowed this morning so that is confirmation he is a rooster! My boyfriend does not want to part with Tiny at all, so looks like we may not send him/her to the farm just yet, at least until we are sure of gender.

They are WAY to young to sex. Wait till they are 3-4 months old then you may have a more solid idea.

Girls can take up to 9 months to lay, I've heard of roosters fooling you into thinking they are hens - very henny crests, little to no wattles or comb, until they crow at 9-12 months old. lol Silkies are the hardest breed to sex. Unless they are hatchery chicks - hatchery chicks tend to be very easy to tell by 2-3 months old. Looking at these chicks its hard to tell on many of them...Give them another month before making serious guesses on most of them.

That buff is a rooster, its also got a single comb, the wattle development and that big reddening single comb are a sure fire that hes a boy.


out of those last pictures the first one you'll get a good idea on is the brown chick - the partridge. Partridge color in differently (boys/girl patterns) and its still too young to tell.

Wondering why are the chicks from hatcheries are easier to sex ?
