Silkie Splash Ameraucanas

The hen (Harriet) has started laying again this week. I put her in with the rooster and he whipped up on her a bit. So I removed her again. All she will do is hide under the nest boxes or under the feeder, so I don't know if her eggs are fertilized or not.

I put six in the incubator this morning and will candle them in a few days to see what's there. I will try to put her in with the rooster this weekend.

Hopeful!

Those chicks remind me of a baby parrot or something with the way they are sitting and how they look all wet almost, lol.

Maybe try putting him in with her, kinda like the reverse of rabbits so she feels like its her territory and wont be affraid.

Have you successfully bred these birds back to a black or blue Ameraucanas to hopefully produce the silkie-feathered B/B?

I'd be interested in that project.

On another note- I wonder what the offspring of crossing one of these Splash silkie-feathered birds with a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana would result in?

Blue Wheatens are my favorite.

I have ordered some show quality Blue/Black Amer. chicks to be shipped in March. As soon as they are grown, I will start breeding them back to the silkie ones. Blue Wheaten sound interesting - if someone has those and would like to breed with the silkie amer. let me know.

I'm starting a breeding flock of BW Ameraucana's this March! It'll be towards the end of the year before the hens mature and start laying eggs, but maybe we could eventually swap? Or I could send you some BW eggs that you can put your Silkie/Ameraucana's over and then ship some of the results back!?

I see a very potentially beautiful friendship in the making...

Yes, urbanfarmboi!

I would definitely be interested in working together on that. My Blue/Black ameraucanas will not be laying until fall also, so it would probably work out perfectly. Just keep it in mind.
