Well mine don't perch so I don't worry about that and i put all my nest boxes about 6 inches off the ground.
Now if they would jsut learn to actually go in the nest box to lay the egg and not next to it or behind it or
in the middle of the floor. LOL!!

Thank you so much. I won't worry about perches at all then. That's easier anyways lol. I will mount the nest boxes @ 6 inches. Is there anything else special you need to provide for a silkie coop and run that is different from normal chickens? Should I try to make the coop low to the ground or will they be able to maneuver steps okay? I cover all my runs with wire topped with shadecloth to keep the hawks out and provide extra shade.

Okay People .. I'm going to be getting some Black and Blue silkie hatching eggs so PLEASE post pictures of chicks and adutls!!!

Here's the latest pic of my little showgirl. Tried to get pics of my other six silkies but they just are being uncooperative. I thought silkies were going to be less skittish but I think I don't spend enough time with them.

I am planning to keep a roo or two from this batch to see if I can get away with a smaller cuter roo

-- but they are only 5 1/2 weeks old so too hard to tell yet, I guess. If my showgirl is a roo, it's one of the ones I will try to keep.

it's cute:D

hey, if a silkie chick has a whitish comb what does it mean? it will turn red in future? sides are darker but not very dark and the middle of comb is hmm cream.
