Silkie Thread! Talk about your Silkies and post pics of your Silkies

Can you explain that Silver Gene White to me? I have a Non Bearded Roo that has a silver tint to his very white feathering. You can really see it on his rump and around the vent. It looks like a light dusting of silver. He is passing it on to some of the Whites and when he breeds a black, we are getting Greys. I was told he was a "Silver White." No one has been able to explain that to me though.

Probably a splash maybe lavender. Where did you get it? I have had many splash look like that until 3 or 4 months and then they get the black. lol I love its hair do!

I got the chicks from a breeder in Independence, KY. The rooster and hen were both white but he said that since he has brought that rooster in that he has had anything from white to splash to grey from the two of them. he had all his seperated out by color, so I know nothing else was in the mix.

A silver gene white means it is carrying a silver gene that is supposed to make them whiter white, less prone to sun discoloration.

But there is something going on with whites in the US that are producing something else. Its been suggested that it might be dominant white. Or that it is the smokey gene which is also reportedly only found in the lab. I've been asking for several years now what is going on with my whites, they hatch gray, turn white with the gray in the tail but by an F3 breeding are entirely gray with steaks of darker gray.

Here is a pic of one that I have. From his hackles back he has a smokey grey color. Very noticable when you wash him, he actually turns darker grey(not a silkie pattern grey, but the actual color grey)

Brody's Brodello : that wing feathers are so shiny, or just look like that? Roo looks lovely:)

Could someone tell me for sure is my little roo lavender or splash or what? He's bigger now and he have a patches of darker grey on his body and some reddish feathers on neck:/
