I love Silkies......my little Q-tip is a kept man. I was going to sell him and his girls because of my main interest in my Welsummers and Marans and I was running out of coops to keep all the breeds seperated. Well my mother had a fit and said "Don't you dare....he's my favorite chicken of yours" She then offered to pay for all the up keep of "Q" and his girls but the deal was they have to stay at my house and I have to take care of them. (Thanks MOM!

The first pic you posted to me looks like a Black Silkiie withe lavendar showing through in its hackel feathering. It could just be the lighting. My Blacks with the lavendar gene look similar but they didn't come from Bobbie but they did come from north of the mason dixon line. Maybe yours or some one you sold to or bought from? At any rate one of mine is the father to a Porcelian. The mother has yet to be determined.

Genetically that cannot happen. Lavender dilutes all black pigment to lavender colour (when two copies of lav are present; when only one is present it has NO affect on the appearance; lav is not leaky as are some recessive genes).

If a black bird has a silver hackle that tells you that
1) the bird carries silver and
2) it has insufficient melanizers and should not be used for breeding blacks.

It might be useful in breeding greys or cuckoos.

Blue or green eggs mean Easter egger chickens. But they could still have silkie traits like beards or crests, Black Skin or 5 toes. Rarely fur like feathers like a true Silkie. It is a pet project of mine to create a silkie that lays such colored eggs. Maybe some has beat me to it! Oops I forgot auracaunas/americanas (should not be considered a breed anymore than EE's) I have yet to see their rumpless buts beed tru for very long.

Not sure exactly what you mean here? Araucanas and ameraucanas are true, recognised breeds, and they do breed true/predictably. However due to the lethal tuft gene and reduced fertility of rumpless birds both clean faced and tailed birds are used in araucana breeding pens. Here is Harmony, my SQ silver duckwing bantam aracana hen:

Yes, people have worked on and achieved blue egg laying silkies, but it is not an effort that has gained a huge following amongst breeders, which is what would be needed to get them in large numbers.

Thank you Sonoran, your post help me so much!!! The roo I am speaking of has been seperated for some time now and as I only have one grey hen I will try to beed him with her. Still how do I get a "porcelain" from a bbs pen. I do have another roo hatched the same time as the aforementioned roo that was supposed to carry lavender as well but because I couldn't see it it never dawned on me. This roo is seperated as well. I have other questions concerning "lavendar" that can wait, but I think you have helped me solve a problem. With only 2 years in chickens and 15 with doves ,please forgive my aggressive posts. Sometimes an old man needs to learn again!

My progress so far is that some look like colored Sultans. One with a what I believe to be a "buttercup comb". most are black skinned 5 toed and crested. Some bearded some not. As for silkie feathering.... so far non existant. I do have a much older one (older than the other EE pullets in her pen) and from her pen I collected two small green eggs this past week. My goal is green or blue eggs from a bird that could pass as a silkie. Colors I will leave for someone more adventurous.

Sorry I don't agree with the APA ( The APA doesn't govern chickens across the world) but am I the only one? As for "aracauna". It is just my experience. I greatly respect your knowledge and could learn much from you, but sometimes you have to go against the grain and oppose the "learned" to make old farts think again.
