My silkies that just started laying a few months ago lay everyday and every other day. Depending on which hen. My house chicken is a sizzle and she has laid every other day since she first started laying.
I have actually had one lay an egg at my feet and then just walk away. I think she thought she pooped or somehting. I've found them in for feed dish but mostly in the nest box
Finally! After months of searching for a white silkie roo in my area I got one. We went to the auction today to sell all our extra's and Somebody brought a white pair and they are nice ones too. We paid $22 for the pair. Other than being dirty they have nice fluffy heads, blue ears, black skin and nice toe placement. Even though they are dirty they are nice and fluffy. If we get a warm day I want to give them a bath to see just how fluffy they actually are. It's apparent they where living in very dirty conditions. Mine have a concrete floor with wood shavings all over it and some are temporarily in cages. Even when I let mine out to free range and they roll in the dirt they never look as dirty as these two are. They are isolated away from the others. I checked them over before I got them and didn't see any bugs or vent problems. All looked good besides the dirt. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.
Yes! Please do! If you have not, I'd give them a good dusting anyway. We purchased our seemingly all-clear Silkies from who we thought was a very decent breeder and we somehow over-looked that they were riddled with mites.
If anyone is interested in picking up this silkie cockerel I hatched from peachick's eggs June 2010, please email me ASAP. I'm in Los Angeles. The person who was supposed to pick him just changed his mind.

Did you just get them? I would give them a bath in a dog/cat flea shampoo. Make sure you get the crest. the problem with silkies is that the critters hide in the crest, which is easy to miss when checking for bugs. especially if your eyes are a bit on the older side. Hubby washed up some birds for me once and missed the crest, he looked and said they were fine. I went back over the birds and you guessed it, little friends in there! Especially if the birds live outside, they all have bugs! So give the breeder the benefit, I'm sure it was an oversite. One thing to remember for everyone, just because the weather has gotten cold, you still need to look the birds over. I have found critters on birds in January before. Good time of year to give everyone a good dusting also. Good luck with your new birds!
