Silkie thread!

thanks, i have done a little impressionist style- its actually quite fun to do, but realism sells better...:)

Flo is a sweet heart! had a friend pick me up a couple silkies, what all do you think of them? i won't get them till june- he saw them at an auction and had to get them... he said they were coming out of a molt, so look pretty ragged...

They are very pretty. The roo is definitely pet quality. Can't tell a lot about the girl. Looks like she lacks foot feathering, tail and crest but the picture isn't the best for evaluation.

thats what i was thinking, in comparision to those i've seen here- course i don't plan on showing, but will probably have seperate pens- as i want the breeding silkies to be better quality

My four Silkie babies, as posted in the "what gender/breed?" thread, I'd love feedback on what the colors might be on the first two. The light one has a greyish cast to it's fluff, more so than in the photo.

I'm new to this but my guess is white/partridge/black

OK, I'll admit it, I'm too lazy to scour over 14,000 posts to find the answers to my question. Hope you can help me. :D

I have a NN cockerel & 3 NN hens. I'd like to add a few more birds to my flock of bantams. I have heard that Silkies are
so mellow that they don't do well with other breeds. I'd really love to add a couple to this little flock. There will be more than 18 sq. ft.
of run space per bird.

Thanks!

So what is your question? Would they be okay to house with other breeds? I wouldn't recommend it unless the silkies were first or were raised with the other bantams. That said you could try to introduce them to the other flock, but if you do take the current birds out for a few days, and then add the silkies while the other birds are 'evicted' and then bring the original birds back into the coop/pen and watch closely. Silkies are very open to being picked on with those crests - they have poor eye sight to escape.

Just wanted to say a quick "hello' to everyone, since I'm peeking at your threads... Did have black show silkies, but the male had an unfortunate accident that resulted in a wing amputation to save his life. He eventually passed away, and I never had any silky babies. :-( I'm thinking about ordering some eggs for the great easter hatch....

I'm new to the forum, but not at all new to barnyard fowl.

My daughter added silkies to her bantam flock without incident.
