I just canded a few eggs that have been under my broodie for 4 days. I don't think they are fertile. I've only seen my roo on board in the correct position one time so I'm thinking he still doesn't have it figured out yet.I have a BBS pen and have a young splash (3 months) that is looking awesome. I'm just hoping he doesn't get the dreaded red hackles! Maybe he'll know what to do.![]()

I feel your pain!! ha! I'm just really wanting to hatch silkie babies and it's turned into this crazy fiasco for me. Your little splash sounds promising! Any ideas on what gender you think he might be? Yeah, the red seems to come in later, doesn't it? I sure wish it would show up earlier so we could sell them off as cute pet quality chicks. Sorry your roo is still having problems getting things figured out. I wonder if this is a common juvenile male silkie thing? Bah.
Update: Bonk is doing great after bonk number two. AND he crowed this morning. So I was right on the he part. lol.
He hatched on Thanksgiving and crowing already! I was soooo hoping I was wrong.

I realized yesterday that he is only 11 weeks, but noticeably bigger than the others and has some comb showing. That and behavior make my think male. I have two doz. kelar eggs coming this week though. I'm sooooo excited! That God for shipped eggs!
