Silkie thread!

Is this info coming from experience or food manufacturers? I ask because it seems nature would allow for some give and take. It sounds similar to, for example,
dog food manufacturers' claims that every meal needs to be complete and balanced....which is complete bs. Have you personally found this to be true? (I am not trying to
be argumentative, just curious if you have observed it, or read it).

The plumage is basically "starved", and feathers do not grow correctly. Colour is lacking, width may change, etc. Feathers grow fast, so even a day or two where the bird does not eat enough, or the right foods can cause feather growth issues. And of course, there could be factors that prevent a bird from metabolizing what it does eat.

I just hatched 13 from catdance yesterday and all are going great and fluffy....lots of colors...

Awesom!! I'd look to see pictures. I just set two doz. catdance eggs yesterday.

Some people trim the feathers underneath the mom so the babies don't get tangled in them. We'll be looking forward to pictures!

Okay I have a ? silkie breeders please help I want more chickies! My splash silkie hen is laying but her eggs aren't fertile. I think there cushions r too big how much do I trim off and what am I looking for??

You need to trim the area around the vent on the rooster especially but trimming both could be helpful. I trimmed a circle about 4 inches in diameter. My eggs were fertile in a couple of days but they still didn't grow. I think it's because they were layed in the evening and we are getting tempuratures in the low 20's at night here in the mountains. I'm testing a new group now.
