They are so beautiful. I would set out there all day just to watch them. I just started with my group. I have 2 x 3 week old white. I call them Butter and Popcorn since they look like popcorn popping when they run around. I also got 5 from a hatachery. Two I really like. I diffently want to expand into so nice BQ maybe SQ silkies. Yours are just so pretty and fluffly.

Derpin' with my new friend over here ;) lol

No, I don't wear that expression on a normal basis, hahaha xD

Just painted my room last weekend, though! Like?

I got my first pure red silkie yesterday with her 8 chicks. Only went to get a couple of chicks but saw her and the babies and fell in love with them.
I was told that the chicks are pure red also but half seem a light yellow and the other half are dark. Im not worried though i love them all the same

Im looking forward to reading the thread to get some tips

Welcome to Silkie Addiction!!

And I can certainly see how you fell in love with that beautiful girl and her babies!

I have always wanted a silkie but it had been more of a dream really but my husband saw her and he said thats the one were having. he doesnt really take much notice of the chickens we have but even he fell in love with her.
Im new to keeping them so i just hope i do the right things.

May i ask what sort of enclosure you keep them in as my other hybrids are in an enclosure which is like a mud bah at the moment so dont want to put them in something like that. Thik i may have to steel a bit more of the garden and make them there own

in silkies you typically don't see the boys wanting to breed til about 6 months, some a bit earlier, some don't act boyish til almost a year old.
If you collect your eggs every day, you'd never even notice fertilized eggs. It takes 3 days of 80-90 degree temps before development is readily noticed ( that small spot on all eggs even store bought will have a really defined circle, bit a tiny bit bigger and have some tiny veins) on a yolk of a cracked open egg. It takes 21 days for a chick to hatch, so even with a roo as long as you don't pop eggs in an incubator or let a hen go broody on eggs, you won't have to worry about chicks or anything.
Thanks... I'd really like to wait to see if peaches roo before having to see her go... Is it usual to see a boyish girl? I've seen some really girlish boys.... Typical on average when do silkie Roos crow... We had a cochin batman and a frizzle who started around 3 months but I know from reading silkie Roos develope much slower.... By the way scared.. Your feathered babies are beautiful!

Thanks everyone for the compliments of my birds. I love them

I am so happy with this years bunch of my own breeding, bought eggs, and bought birds. I now am faced with how to thin out my beautiful growouts...I went from 50 to 25 that was so tough! lol

and yes that cutie 1st picture is a 2 month old, that bunch hatched Feb 22nd making her 9 weeks I think. Shes a big baby too, the other 3 I got with her are just as big, but shes by far the prettiest of the bunch. lol (shhhh don't tell the others)

Heres pictures of my eye catching boy Sherbert

I just love him!

Boo I'm sad... The more and more I look at peaches she looks like a Pit (roo) :( streamers are becoming more evident... And i've notice a difference in stance...he she holds her wings lower... Is that a typical thing for roosters? Or do some pullets hold their wings low? Now I got to figure out if I wait to hear her crow (get even more attached) or just settle with that she's a he and let her go....

:/ sigh...

Somebody needs to inform my Elliot ( <---- avatar) of this fact. He is barely 5 months old and VERY determined. I'm going to have silkied Black Copper Marans pretty soon because those crazy ladies actually squat for him and let him try. Oy!!

Oooohhhh...I think I'd love a silkied BCM. Hmmmm....I'm picturing a black silkie with a coppery breast that lays chocolate colored eggs....(In reality you'd probably get a regular feathered bird that lays light brown eggs

Okay so my daughter wanted nuggets eggs for breakfast...she just started laying laying one every other day.... So I had them stored in the fridge.went to crack 2 (the oldest eggs) and they appeared to be fertilize! A definite bulls eye! :/ if I put the other two back in the box would she sit on them.. Did I ruin them by putting them in the fridge? Is that my sign that peaches is definitely a roo... ? Is it even possible ? Think instead of cracking more eggs open gonna go put the two back in the basket til you guys tell me otherwise.
