Silkie thread!

No its ok. No false hope. I have listened to everyone about the whole crowing vs. laying an egg. But is would be special if I got SOME girls. So far all the chicks I have picked are roos. Except the pullets sent from the hatchery. lol

I don't know.... I'm looking at it again and those legs look kind of long. I'm having second thoughts on the girl part. Post pictures in another 3 weeks.

They are so pretty! When do you clip their wings? I have 10 week old red sexed link and a silver lace. should i be trimming their feathers since they are starting to range?

OMG Einstein is a DOLL!!!
And great pics all....!
Hello everyone. I have been posting in threads all day about the chickens I have. I have 2 silkies. We had a lot of trouble with one of the little birds, but it is doing much better now. The little guy just wouldn't grow. Here are some of the photos. If you want to tell me if you think roo or pullet that would be great!

These 2 were born at the same time, I have had them since they were 1 week old. This photo was taken 2 weeks ago. They would be about 3-4 weeks old here.

Silkies don't fly so you don't clip their wings. I prefer my chickens to not be clipped if they are free ranging so they are better able to escape a predator. I don't free range silkies as they are so defenseless.

So I found one of the newly hatched chicks pretty much dying today.

It was still wet and everything and looked like it had just hatched.
It also looked like it's umbilical cord was still attached and some other weird looking things were coming out as well. I don't know what kinds of cords and things are attached to the chick when it hatches, but it certainly looked odd? I found the chick cold on the shavings, even the hens were not interested in the poor baby so I'm thinking there was something wrong with it.

Also, I found an egg that was all liquid on the inside. You could shake it and it sounded like water was splashing around. What does that mean??

Here is Einstein today.  At 7-8 weeks old.

Here is scrambled today.  I will try and get a better shot tonight when my husband gets home.  Its tough to get a 2 year old to sit still.  Especially a 2 year old and a chicken!

Love love love the middle picture!:D
